Miraculous Producers Zag and Mediawan Launch Miraculous Corp to Steer Hit Franchises

Leading French indie production outfit Mediawan and creator-driven animation studio Zag are teaming to launch Miraculous Corp, a new label that will oversee Zag’s most successful original IP, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.

Miraculous Corp will join all facets of the Miraculous franchise under one roof, with Mediawan taking 60% ownership and Zag the other 40%. Zag founder and Miraculous co-creator Jeremy Zag will continue as a major shareholder and board member while overseeing the development and creation of new storylines and characters within the franchise.

As part of its debut, Miraculous Corp teased several new characters set to appear in Miraculous films and series, including Rainbow Light, Tiger Force, Captain Justice, Time Master, Jungle Queen, and Lady Dragon.

The company will lead the way on “Miraculous, The Movie 2,” a Zag-directed sequel to the 2023 feature adaptation. The first film is one of the most-watched French animated films in history, pulling in $44 million globally. The film debuted in second place worldwide on Netflix in August of last year and has generated more than 35 million views on the platform since.

The Miraculous IP has also been a licensing and merchandising behemoth, with more than 300 million branded products sold globally in 2023, generating more than $400 million in retail revenues.

“Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir” was originally created by Zag, Thomas Astruc and Nathanaël Bronn and was co-produced by Zag and Mediawan Kids & Family. To date, the franchise has birthed five TV seasons, three TV movies and a feature film, and production for seasons six and seven of the original show are now in production.

In a release, Jeremy Zag said: “After all these years dedicated to passionately developing the Miraculous universe alongside Thomas Astruc, Nathanaël Bronn and Sébastien Thibaudeau, this new chapter of our journey with Mediawan will allow us to fulfill our wildest dreams, matching the ambition we have for Miraculous.”

He went on, “We are poised to introduce a groundbreaking universe of superheroes, one that not only captivates audiences worldwide but also champions the principles of girl power and gender equality. This innovative universe will transcend borders, captivating audiences in various forms across the globe.”

Mediawan founder and president Pierre-Antoine Capton added: “Today, Miraculous stands as an emblematic brand of Mediawan, and the introduction of Miraculous Corp, along with the formation of a dedicated team for its development, will allow us to explore new creative territories and further enhance its global presence.”
